ABOUT ME

I grew up in the High Desert in California with my parents, two big sisters, and my little brother. We lived on a dirt road with lots of space to run around and SING AS LOUD as possible.

My mom and sisters taught me all of their favorite songs from musicals in the bathroom and we learned how to harmonize at church on sundays.

When I was ten, my oldest sister was in a production of The Pirates of Penzance at her high school. My dad volunteered to run the box office and brought me with him every night so I could watch the show. We hosted the cast party at our house and I was beside myself. This is what I was meant to do - These were my people.

To this day, I still get the same feeling when I walk into a rehearsal room or see a student light up in a lesson!

After high school, I went to Pepperdine University and studied Vocal Performance. I met my best friends - Savannah and Kate, my mentor/voice teacher - Louise Lofquist, and my husband - Chris. I studied Western Classical music and loved it. However, when it came time to apply for Grad Schools, I was stuck. I love singing Bellini and Mozart, but when I close my eyes and picture myself singing on stage - I’m singing Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter and Jonathan Larson.

That realization led me to Oklahoma City University to get my Master’s in Music Theatre. OCU is Broadway Bootcamp - It is some of the best Musical Theatre training in the country and I loved every minute of it.

After OCU, I moved back home to California, got married, and started to build a life and career in LA and Orange County. I completed contracts with Theatre companies from Thousand Oaks to San Diego. I found a niche for myself as an actor who could play multiple characters, dance well enough, and sing the high C’s in the score.

In addition to acting and auditioning, I worked as a Substitute Teacher, Sales and Operations at a Yoga Studio, and eventually a Trainer at a Dance Cardio Studio called AKT. When the Pandemic hit, I was lucky enough to keep my job as a fitness instructor and eventually became the General Manager of AKT Yorba Linda. We offered outdoor classes during the Pandemic, eventually moved back inside, and became the most successful AKT in the Country.

I continued working full time as a General Manager after the Pandemic and was promoted to Regional Sales Manager for Xponential Fitness. But as it goes in the song , “Art [was] calling to me”. I missed singing. I missed the joy that I felt being around musicians. So I left to become a full time Voice Teacher and performer once more.

Following my joy has definitely paid off. I love the career that I have build in the past few years. I am on the faculty at Cypress College where I teach applied voice lessons as well as academic course work like The History of Rock and Roll. Outside of Cypress College, I get to teach students of all ages and abilities. I get to nurture the spark of joy in fellow artists, and in exchange I get to learn new something every day about the marvel that is the Human Voice.
